Elementary & Middle School (1st-8th)

Overview

CCA elementary and middle school uses a university model of education which blends homeschool education with classroom instruction. Under this model, students study at home and meet for instruction throughout week. Also, since each child is technically a home-school student, we are able to use the same curriculum, focus the class on specific topics, and enjoy other freedoms not normally available in a traditional school setting.

With a university model, each student will:

  • Remain under the parent’s direction for their educational journey
  • Meet with a class throughout the week
  • Have access to resources normally limited to a traditional school
  • Enjoy a small class size
  • Have the freedom to incorporate atypical learning into their education experience

*As part of the CCA tuition, each student will be given the resources and materials required for class.

Class Structure

Classes are divided into four sections currently: 1st grade, lower elementary (grades 2 -3), upper elementary (grades 4-5), and middle school (grades 6-8). Similar to a traditional school, students will begin the day in a “home room,” changing classes at the end of each period. An example of a typical day might be:

Each day of class will focus on a variety of subjects, which will continue for the entire semester. Our intention is to assist parents by offering instruction in several core subjects throughout the year. This means each student will receive instruction in three subjects per day. Generally, students will receive time for both class lecture/instruction as well as practical application/hands-on learning. Enrichment classes rotate quarterly, with offerings varying from year to year. Enrichment classes rotate quarterly, with offerings varying from year to year. Past enrichment classes have included ASL, Spanish, Music, Art, Cursive Handwriting, Poetry and Literature, Culinary Arts, and Public Speaking.

Parents may enroll their student in either the Mon/Wed (or) the Tues/Thurs, (or) both programs. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the class schedule, we are no able to offer one day of each schedule. The above information reflects the current schedule.

Additionally, the following will be provided throughout the year:

  • Weekly Chapel service
  • Fire safety
  • Health and Wellness
  • Civics (each semester)
  • Snack and recess (each day)
    • *Children must bring their own snack

Parent Involvement

CCA employs a staff teacher for each class, which provides consistency and stability in the classroom, however parent involvement is critical for success. For that reason, parents of each enrolled student are encouraged to serve at least once per month as the aide a classroom. This model allows for a classroom environment while also maintaining parental involvement at every stage of learning. Having parents serve as aides also allows us to keep tuition affordable.

Parental Responsibility

CCA provides a supplemental educational program designed to assist homeschool families and as such cannot guarantee minimum hours or days of instruction required by the Department of Education. While all activities at the Academy will count toward those minimums, and in some cases may satisfy the State’s requirements, CCA does not claim to meet those minimums in any subject. Therefore, it shall be the responsibility of each parent to ensure their student satisfactorily completes each requirement of homeschool law.
